July’s desktop comes from a six hour day hike I took near the southern tip of the south island in New Zealand. It was a super rewarding day photographically and emotionally. So great to just get out and hike completely alone for hours. I ended up hiking around the hill you see on the left, and up around the top ridge where there were alpine lakes and waterfalls. June Desktop 2011

June’s desktop comes from my last night in New Zealand, staying in Rotorua on the North Island. Earlier in the trip, I learned how to locate the southern celestial pole… the point which all of the stars appear to rotate around when as the earth rotates (seen in the bottom of the image.) The different colors seen in the stars is caused by the different temperatures & intensities that each of the stars burn. This is a 4886 second exposure, about 81 minutes. Enjoy!

May’s desktop is here!

This one is from Mt. Cook National Park in south New Zealand. At 12,300 ft, Mt. Cook is the tallest mountain in New Zealand. I was driving out to the mount very early in the morning and shot this 4 second exposure handheld, a good half hour before the sun actually came up.

Here’s December desktop (~~slightly~~ extremely late)

it takes me awhile to settle on an image that I think can work well as a desktop. This one comes from Ghana when I was there with Videre.

We were in Cape Coast, and this frame was shot from a castle right on the water. Enjoy!

Sorry to all for getting this out so late… I’ve been in Africa and really on the run for over a month… mostly with very limited internet connectivity. This month’s desktop comes from Marsabit, Kenya. A couple days ago we were sitting on the back patio of the lodge, watching the elephants below this tree…While we were relaxing after our day of woodwalking, I exposed this frame over a period of about half an hour (these are the trails left in the sky by the stars, as the earth rotates.) Enjoy!

October’s desktop comes from Ntungamo, Uganda where I just returned from yesterday. The landscape there was simply breathtaking… the green rolling hills resembled the highlands of Scotland (but without the miserable cold, wet rain!) Enjoy!

Here’s September’s desktop… an image shot at sunrise over Santorini Island, Greece. If you ever get a chance to go here, do it. It’s definitely one of my favorite places in the world… they have red, white, and black beaches all on one tiny island just 12 mi long and about 1 mi wide. Awesome!

Sorry to be posting the August desktop so late!! I have been on the run since I left Dallas on August 1st… I put together this month’s desktop on the plane but just haven’t taken a second to sit down and post it! It comes from Lake Langano, Ethiopia… A friend of mine got married when I was there in April so I took a few images around the area for him… this was one of ‘em!

I also added a size specifically catered to iPhone (any generation) this month… Enjoy!

July’s desktop comes straight from South Africa! When I was at the World Cup last week I did a series of abstract/fine art images of the amazing Soccer City Stadium in Joburg… I also thought it might be useful to have the tourney bracket/schedule for those of us that are following the games closely… and for those of you that aren’t so interested in futbol, I have a version without the bracket as well… Enjoy!
