My previous post somehow got comments turned off. Not sure how that happened, but they are back on now! Would love to hear from you, thanks!

Well — we have just returned to Athens from Ukraine and had no internet access there so we were unable to do any updating. Wow what a trip! My dad and I were both blown away by the phenomenal work that God is doing in there.

A beautiful little gal at the orphanage in Loubetin.

We arrived into Ukraine on the night of the 6th and here we are leaving already on the evening of the 9th. In these three days we have seen so clearly the work of the Lord in the ministry of the Lifesong Orphanages. We arrived into the airport in Kharkiv (pronounced HAR-keeb) at almost 11 PM and the only thing we knew is we were looking for a guy named Dennis.

They opened the hatch and we walked across the very dark tarmac (almost no light at all) and walked through a gate that took us outside the airport fence. On the other side, there was a little Ukranian guy saying “david austin david austin david austin” with a thick Russian accent. Immediately our ears perked up and we were super excited to see him because we honestly weren’t even sure if they knew what time we were to get in. We got into the car and began heading off.

About 10 minutes into our trip in the car, I realized we had completely forgotten our checked bag that contains some odds and ends such as tools we couldn’t carry-on, chargers, and candy for the orphans.

A crazy metro train track that is shared with the streets in Kharkiv, at some points the cars drive straight down the tracks because the tracks and strreets seem to merge!

So we told our driver that we needed to go back to the airport and that we were very sorry. Naturally, he pulled over the car to the side of the road and opened the door for us. Clearly he didn’t speak stellar English! After some time of trying to communicate what we needed to do, we turned around and went back.

Our driver, Michael, who we later found out was the younger brother of Dennis, took us into the airport and sure enough in a back office we found our little bag sitting in there. A great relief to have it! I think we forgot that bag for a couple of reasons. First, there was no baggage claim! The airport was so small I think we were actually supposed to go pick it up right off the aircraft. Secondly, we were so excited to see our host we could barely stand it and just got into the car to go!

This is a little video I put together by setting up my 5D to shoot an image every 5 seconds and then I stripped them together to play back 24 frames per second. Enjoy!
